About this wine
“1998 was the year my Sommelier studies were completed. Looking for the next move and a new challenge; the decision to study winemaking was made, a step into the unknown, something new & alternative. This wine is a reflection of that, allowing the path to follow its own course, with no knowing where it will lead in the future. In 2012 the wine chosen was Tempranillo.”
– Andrew Wood, Owner and Winemaker
Rather than the Rioja region of Spain 400 bottles started its journey in Blewitt Springs. Fermented and then matured for 30 months in new American hogsheads bottling in winter 2015. Twenty four more months further maturation in bottle and this wine was released in winter 2015.
Typical of this variety and style deep red with a hint of rust and aromas of mulberry, blueberry with seductive overtones of vanilla and spice with a touch of fennel, citrus peel and must sticks.
Full and rich, this wine has ripe boysenberry, blueberry and plums on the palate. Firm fleshy tannins dance with licorice, vanilla bean, all spice and wood smoke indicative of its life in new American oak.
Enjoy with rich Mediterranean fish broth with saffron aioli and crispy sour dough or equally at home with a decadent chocolate and orange torte. Enjoy for next 10 years or more.
